LONG-DISTANCE CALL: NASHVILLE, TENN., STUDENTS TO TALK TO THE CREW OF 
INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION, VETERAN NASA ASTRONAUT

What:
Nearly 1,000 students from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee 
Summer Programs in Nashville, Tenn., will attend a question and answer 
session via satellite with the three-member crew of the International 
Space Station and then get to talk to NASA astronaut Rhea Seddon, 
veteran of three space shuttle launches, on Thursday, August 17. 
Approximately 15-20 students from that group will actually talk to and 
ask questions of the space station crew during the event.

The crew, comprised of a NASA astronaut, European Space Agency astronaut 
and Russian cosmonaut, are spending six months living and working on 
board the station – an orbiting research laboratory that NASA and 
agencies from 15 other nations are building in space.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee is partnering with the 
Nashville Public Schools and Vanderbilt University's Dyer Observatory in 
Nashville to deliver education opportunities focusing on preparing 
students for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Jim Cooper of Nashville and veteran NASA astronaut Rhea Seddon will be 
available for media interviews.

8:30 – 8:45 a.m. – Guest speakers including U.S. Rep. Cooper
8:45 – 9:15 a.m. – Q&A with veteran astronaut Rhea Seddon
9:15 – 10:15 a.m. – Media tour of Wright Middle School
