It's amazing how casually we criticize without seeking
explanations. I remember reading a story several years
that explained that the shuttle computers still are
486-based. The reasoning then was that the 486 had been
tested to death, had fewer bugs, and moreover were
fast enough to respond to and control the
mechanics of the shuttle. KISS is still worth
considering when it comes to safety and reliability.
