This is already being done by a few stations. For example, if you
look at the data on www.ariss.net you will find a few stations
appending their gateway callsign to the path of the packet information.
It becomes obvious when you see the same callsign appearing in
the packet path from station to station.
Here is an example of a packet that was gated through my gateway
to the internet. You can find this on www.ariss.net
W8IX>DIT,NOCALL*,N8DEU-00*/1:>EN60vk/- Tom, 73 from Kokomo
Each packet that comes through here has a defined path name
appended to the path list. In this case the gateway is clearly identified
as N8DEU-00 which is unique. There have been no complaints and
it appears that it does not break any APRS software out there and it
supports all the APRS style commands you can feed it.
