Perhaps you missed the introduction that this is the 50th anniversary of the
first amateur satellite launch newsletter?
Dateline: Project OSCAR Newsletter November 15, 1961 at 1345 PST
Project OSCAR is providing reproductions of the satellite news from 50 years
ago when OSCAR 1 was announced on November 15 and launched on December 12,
1961.

Who writes this stuff? There's 700,000 licensed Amateur Radio Operators in
the United States alone!
*"There are an estimated 300,000 licensed radio amateurs in the world, and
the
American Radio Relay League hopes a large number of these hobbyists will
participate in the forthcoming experiments."*
