AO-73 from AMSAT-UK is very easy to capture telemetry from. Check out the
AMSAT-UK website for the info and the telemetry decoder program.
The Space Station (ISS) is also easy to receive for Packet/APRS monitoring.
That function is usually on, but it has been turned off for the last week or
two. No doubt it will be back up since it is pretty popular. You can get
info for ISS from AMSAT and from ARISS on the web. I use DireWolf and UISS
software for packet, but others, with a lot more experience than me, will
have other suggestions.
The vertical antenna is a bit of a mixed blessing. You'll likely have some
reception at intermediate satellite elevations, but you may lose some signal
when the satellites go right over head. On the other hand, satellites are at
intermediate elevations more often then they are overhead, so give your set
up a try and let us know what happens!
