MFJ used to sell a MSDOS terminal window program with their MFJ-1270C which
they called MFJCOM. This also ran under windows. The comm window would allow
you to manually enter the TNC commands such as UNPROTO CQ VIA RS0ISS,
MYCALL, PASSALL, MCON, MALL, etc. etc.

A quick google for 'mfjcom' yielded a somewhat obscure repository containing
mfjcom.zip (but I don't know the contents of this zip file);

Another version of the terminal program called Skyrider claims to be the
predecessor to MFJCOM:
