I suppose this is because, as others have said, to do duplex you have
to use one side for TX and one side for RX and the sats don't use the
same bands for RX/TX. (Just confirming I understand the problem).

With Kenwood radios there is a way to transfer memories to VFO. I
wonder if you just saved each sat's RX and TX if you could transfer
the memory with at least tone, and hopefully step, to the appropriate
side of the radio. I can't remember the buttons to do this, but on
some Kenwood radios it is as simple as Function -> VFO
