While the why and how they stay up there IS amazing, I continue to be totally in awe by how we can communicate with/thru them from so far and with a hand-held/qrp, almost full quieting !!

of picking up a handheld XCVR and talking to folks halfway

This day (10/4) in 1957 the first satellite was put in orbit by the Russians. Many of us remember it! The rest is history.
