Dave,
I'm pretty sure people have gotten DXCC via LEO sats, or for certain many
ops have more than a "handful".
You do know you could work portable? Go to the east coast work a ton of EU,
then come over to the west coast pick up HI/JAPAN/RUSSIA/AK, then head
south to Florida and work all the SA countries, and islands to your heart's
content. However, if you plan on sitting in a shack your limiting yourself.
But let's say you don't wanna work portable...Just for fun, I drew a
circle with a 8,000km radius from EN53qb, and I can tell you there is more
than 100 DX in that circle.
And really would SAT DXCC via a well placed GEO SAT be that fun or
exciting? You would just sit there and make contacts all day, and the
challenge/fun would be sorta just be gone, IMO.
