[sarex] Heard JP at last!

Hello All,

I heard JP last night after many tries. It was the 11.10pm local (13.10 
UTC) pass over Australia. He had a beautiful signal on my HT and was 
speaking to a few VK2's and VK3's (I heard both sides of the conversation 
with Mark, VK3BMJ). He then spoke to a ham in New Caledonia in French.

I was using a Kenwood TH-215A with rubber duck (2.5W Tx on batts). For 
tracking I use MacDoppler (http://www.dogparksoftware.com) and a Mac 
Powerbook G3. I check the predictions using NASA's JPASS 
(http://liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/RealTime/JPass/JPass.asp).

Thanks to the MIREX list for all the valuable info.

For beginners in Australia ... 
Freq = 145.985MHz
Cosmonauts sleep between 1-11 UTC (11am-9pm local EST)
Any pass more than 5deg above the horizon is easy to receive using a 
scanner or handheld with just a rubber duck antenna.
What it sounds like ...
Packet: little spurts of data at fairly regular intervals.
SSTV (Slowscan pictures): Starts with "R0MIR" in morse code then about 2 
minutes of 'tweeting tones'
Voice: The guy  with the French accent is JP (Jean-Pierre). You will 
usually only hear one side of the conversation.
