Maybe I'm under the mistaken impression that ariss.net *only* takes its
positions from the body of the packet, either in grid square or LAT/LON
formats. I don't remember that it parses the header of the packet to get the
position report.
In a keyboard QSO.... if I were only going to receive ONE packet from
someone, then I would rather know their name than their location. If I see
someone on the ISS for the first time and want to say hi, I'd rather that they
use their name on the destination address so that I can say "hi [name]"
instead of "hi [callsign]". That is what makes this method seem more friendly
(and efficient) to me. And with my poor memory, I may not remember your
name until we have said hi to each other many times.
Well, that's my 2 cents worth...
