I am also in agreement with Stan,
the name is more important than location.
Contesting and paper chasing does have it benefits to
amateur radio.
hover its the people that are more important than location.
Lets have fun and keep it friendly.
When i see a (computer generated string of aprs code) without
any human text, i assume that the station that sent that string
vi ISS is Unmanned and therefor I do not send back a welcome/hello
message.
when i see something friendly like this:
N2ABCD>NOCALL*>GEORGE: <<UI>>: n2abcd@amsat.org
I am more inclined to try to start a conversation.
verses
KB2ABCD-3>NOCALL*>3Y1Q0W [09/22/01 07:50:06]: <<UI>>:'fH~l j/]
Which I assume No-one is home
As bob b. noted, there is a bug a few APRS software packages:
If you want anyone with the Kenwood all-in-one APRS Radios to see you
and
many of the other APRS software, then the UNPROTO must begin with one
of
the more common generic callsigns: BEACON,CQ,QST,ID,ALL, etc..
Lets hope that these problems can be fixed.
73 all and enjoy.
Next year more toys for ISS
